Thanks for all of your comments about the low-carb diet. I have done a low-carb diet before, I'm not sure if it would be considered extreme or not. I had no carbs for breakfast, a salad with grapefruit for lunch, and a regular/healthy dinner with one carb serving (one roll, or one serving of rice, etc.). I did very well on that diet.
However, I did gain the weight back...obviously. I didn't just add carbs back though, I ate everything in sight. I know the arguments against "dieting" and I want the lifestyle change. I guess I'm just looking for a jumpstart to speed up the initial loss.
I am definitely not doing an extreme low-carb diet this time. I have been enjoying fresh fruit and the occasional whole-grain something with dinner (bread or rice usually).
Here's what I've been eating:
Breakfast: usually an egg (cooked variety of ways) with fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cantaloupe, etc)
Lunch: salad with some type of meat on it (chicken, ham, turkey, etc.) and I've been using those squirt dressings so that I supposedly use less of it!
Dinner: meat, vegetable, side salad (maybe one serving of a carb if I really want it)
NO SUGAR DRINKS either. I am down to 1 Diet Coke (okay 2 if it is one of those days) and water only. :)
I have been SO BUSY the last several days...this translates to "I have not been exercising regularly." I usually run alone on my treadmill. I wish I did have a running buddy, but we just don't live in a "go out and run on the sidewalk area." So, I record my favorite TV shows and watch them while I run. It is a good getaway from the kids for an hour or so. I try to get up early (before the kids) ...this means 4:45 during the school year. Now, you see why I'm dreading the return of the school year! If I don't run, I do the 30 Day Shred with Jillian! I also use hand weights and resistance bands.
I have less than a week left of my summer vacation! Can you believe that? I can't! I'm trying not to stress and just enjoy my last days....
Have a great day!

Talk to strangers
We've been conditioned to believe it's best NOT to talk to strangers. I know I still preach that to my own children. Of course, I tell them to be polite, but you know what I mean.
However, on blogger world....we're all pretty much spilling our secrets to strangers. I was so nervous about posting my picture because I didn't want friends or family to "see" my weight, but I have been gladly telling all of you for weeks. There is not one other person in my life (besides my doctor) that knows my weight---not even my BFF Cindy! I've told you guys how I feel about my in-laws and my insecure feelings that weigh me down, too. And believe me, if you met me in person, you would not think I'm insecure. There's something about blogging that makes it easy to tell things, ramble even! Well, thanks for keeping my secrets.
In other news, Cindy and I have decided to try the low-carb diet for at least one month. She totally talked me into it yesterday, and I told her I'd commit for 30 days. What do you all think of this? I've done it before and lost a lot of weight pretty quickly...is this a good idea for me??? I'm not sure. I have also started running more and more. I want to be one of those people who LOVES to exercise. I'm hoping I'll get there.
At the beginning of the school year, my principal always announces that it takes 21 days to make a habit. Maybe all of these healthy things will become a habit I can't live without!
I love the quotes you all send my way ...Jae posted "It's not want you do all the time, it what you do most of the time." and Kerri said, "Motivation gets you started. Habit keeps you going." Those two make a lot of sense to me. Thanks Kerri and Jae!
Jessica at See How She Runs gave me a blogger award. I will post on it later. I've got to think of 7 things about me!!! But....Thanks Jessica!!!!

Bravery
Some of my new blogger friends have asked to see a picture of me in the red dress I wore to the wedding. I can't tell you how nervous I am about it! But, here we go!
7 Things about me:
1. I love plants/flowers, but they do NOT love me. I try and try. I've gotten a little better over the years. Maybe one or two will survive, but that's it!
2. My left foot and my right foot look completely different (to me).
3. I have always felt older than I really am...even as a child. Does this mean I have an "old soul?"
4. I call the area where my rear end looks like it ran into my thigh my "buthigh" (pronounced bu-thight). My friends laugh hysterically at this, but you curvy-hippy girls know what I mean.
5. I have had plastic surgery....on my leg!
6. Swimming in water where I can't see the bottom freaks me out! I am convinced snakes, fish, sharks, etc. are right under me. I know this is a bit confusing since I live on a lake, but as long as I'm not near the "shore", I feel somewhat safe.
7. I get mad at myself for finishing a great book too quickly. Yet, I never slow down. Hmmm.
I hope I did all of that correctly. I am very new to this! :-)
I admit, I made it small on purpose! :) Hey, don't judge. I'm taking baby steps here! I am still afraid someone I know will see my blog and KNOW how much I weigh. Silly, I know. But, it is what it is.
I received my first blog award today. Thank you to Brittany over at :Deliciously Healthy for this award:
The rules for this award are as follows:
1.Thank the person who gave you the award.
2. Share seven things about yourself.

Water Me
I really need to drink more water. I try, I do. I start every day firm in my resolution to drink at LEAST 64 ounces! But here's the deal... I LOVE DIET COKE. I know it's not healthy, but I justify because it has 0 calories. I know the pitfalls about my beloved DC. You don't have to tell me about the artificial sweetners, sodium, and how the sweetness can make you hungrier. AND, my daughters' gymnastics coach says DC gives you belly fat. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the DC that gave me mine (can you say hamburgers, tacos, mashed potatoes, chips, sandwiches, etc), but whatever. My point is: I want to drink more water, I know I need to, but I fail daily to do so. So now, I am pledging to do it right here on this blog of unbreakable promises.
Now...for the important stuff~ THANK YOU for the kind words about my before pictures and my wedding outfit. The wedding was so nice. I had such a great time. All of us danced and laughed. The room overflowed with love for the adorable couple. It was awesome. I tried to be confident and say thank you when I recieved a compliment instead of putting myself down. I even danced when I knew I was being filmed, but it was tough to stop thinking negative thoughts.
I hope you had a fabulous weekend. Enjoy your Monday.

Cheese and Confession
"Cheeeeeese!" I finally did my before shots! I still don't have the courage to show my face, but at least my fat is out there for the world to see! I kept wanting it to be a *good* before shot...but, that's the point right? The before shots are NEVER good! So...without further delay:
Anyway, I also have a major confession with four bad words: Triple Chunk Chocolate Brownies. I have an excuse (hee hee hee--as I always do!). I was so stressed. We have a BIG, BIG wedding to go to tomorrow. Everyone has been talking about it. Everyone has been talking about their new this and new that to wear to this wedding. I was stressed. So, I did what I do. I ate. I'm sure some of you can relate. Then, I drove an hour to the fanciest store around me. I was convinced nothing would fit. I would have to buy a black tent to wear. BUT, lo and behold, I found several dresses. After spending about an hour in the dressing room, I tried on 7 dresses, having my little girl take my picture, texting the pics to my sister and husband, I bought 3 dresses. One for the wedding, and 2 just for me. I may take one back b/c it was pricey and I'm having buyer's remorse. Then, I went and bought shoes! I love shoes. Then, I bought a pair of $80 (yes, that much) Spanx. But, it will be worth it to hold in all the cellulite, I guess. And, my husband can't quit talking about my red dress. It is completely out of my comfort zone. It is something I would wear at a much smaller size. It is red...I like to blend in when I am fat. But, I feel okay in it. I think I might make it through the night. Here, take a look:

With silver jewelry!!! So excited!
Well, I hope you have a great weekend. Stay away from the brownies. Don't judge the before pics to harshly! I'm not sure I can take it! Just kidding!

Keeping on...
Well..
I just returned from the Land of Temptation - my parents' home! Food, oh my, there is food everywhere you turn. And GOOD food! Food that you can't eat just a little bit of! But---I did pretty well. I only ate my 3 meals a day. No snacking. One of my family member's famous quote is "No packin', no snackin'!" It means don't pack food in- stop when you're full AND obviously, no snacks between meals. I've been trying to follow it. I didn't get much exercise in, but I did alright for hanging out with the family.
The scale moved a little. I guess I am hoping for BIG results each time I get on there, but I will take a pound or two loss per week. Maybe it will stay off that way. Who knows! I'm thinking about more of a low-carb approach. OR joining Weight Watchers. I just can't decide.
My sister-in-law gives me Fitness Magazine every year for Christmas. I'm not sure if she's trying to tell me to get fit or just being nice, but it has some good stuff in it. I read the following quote that inspired me:

"My body is a reflection of how grateful I am for my life and my health; there are a lot of people less fortunate than me."
I want my body to reflect how I feel, too. My husband has been cancer free for 2 years. Our life is so good together. I don't want to be an unhealthy person. While my weight is not affecting my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. yet, I am sure the day will come. I can't be overweight forever and it not damage my body.
I do want to make the necessary changes to become a healthier, more confident ME. I also want to work on being patient while these changes take place...that is SO difficult!
Let's keep on going!
For real, this time,

Blue...
Boy...I woke up feeling down! In the dumps! Blue! What is wrong with me?
I am feeling very frustrated by my lack of weight loss. I feel like I am doing a lot of things right: exercise, no snacking, no second helpings, watching portions, and healthy meals. BUT, the scale is barely moving. This is right about the time when I would normally quit in the past- I mean, I can maintain this weight and eat what I want, really. What gives? I'm trying not to do extremes, like cutting out all carbs or drinking Slim Fast twice a day. I know those work fast, but I'm trying to do the lifestyle thing. I know I can't drink liquid meals forever. I'm doing something wrong!!!!
I'm also a little bit down b/c it is July! How did it get here so fast? My summer vacation is almost over! Yikes! I love staying at home with my kids...I know I am blessed that I have a career that allows me that time off. I'll try not to be greedy. When school is out, I always think...oh, yippee! 6 weeks at home being the full-time wife and mom! But, it flies by! I love my job, I just love being home a little more. :)
Last night, I was talking to my best friend of all time: Cindy. She is the "once in a lifetime kind of friend" we all dream of. You know what I mean. Anyway, we just happen to be going through this dieting thing together this time. I say "this time" because we've been on different points of the spectrum continuously throughout the many years. Anyway...when I picked up the phone she said:
"I'm going to write a book. I'm including all of our phone conversations, texts, and emails about dieting, exercise, and weight loss. It will be hilarious. I'll get rich and share with you!"
I laughed because we have said some funny things: like she calls me from the drive-thru and tells me what she going to eat and says she'll restart the diet tomorrow, or we talk the entire time through our walk huffing and puffing to each other, or we call from the dressing room at a store crying / laughing, you know! Those kinds of things! Once, she got stuck in an undergarment in a department store. A nice store, a nice "suck all the fat in" undergarment. She took a picture of herself and texted it to me with the word "help". Well, we live too far apart for me to really go help her, but she did have to get someone to help her get out of it. I laughed until I cried. Maybe she will write the book one day.
I hope all of you are doing well. I'm going to go exercise. Because, I AM NOT GIVING UP THIS TIME. This time, it's for real!
